Those who are interested in helping at one of the PADS sites this next year will be required to attend a training session if they have not volunteered before. The trainings will focus on the Hope Center and Journeys organziational structure, how to interact with the homeless, and general opportunities to volunteer not only at PADS sites but at the Hope Center as well.
Could We Do This?
On Thursday nights from October through April, Congregational United Church of Christ in Arlington Heights provided a warm supper and a place to sleep for homeless persons in our community through the PADS program. As they are organizing schedules for the upcoming year, one of the groups that has prepared and served the suppers has dropped out. Could CCAH do this ministry? The meal would serve about 38 guests, Servers on-site would need to sign up as PADS volunteers (and starting this year would need to agree to vouch on receiving a negative tuberculosis test). Components of the meal could be prepared in our homes or in our CCAH kitchen. We are getting a reading if the meal preparers would be considered official PADS volunteers. If you are interested in exploring/participating, contact Jack Sturgeon at (847)577-8734 or jpjcas@ameritach.net as soon as possible.
